Rsync mirror

Asked by Olleg Samoylov

I see there is not a Russian mirror yet. I may be first. :-) Server is ftp://ftp.mipt.ru. I has done an official Debian secondary mirror already and has experience. What is a rsync server from where I can start mirroring?

Hello Olleg, we will be glad to have you on board!

To register a new mirror please follow this link:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+newmirror

You can use the Ubuntu rsync: rsync://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/

Let us know If you have any problems with this.

Cheers.

I has created and registered my mirror. My server is in Russia, Moscow region. Question is what rsync server is suitable for me archive.ubuntu.com or ru.archive.ubuntu.com? Or my be directly use leningradskaya.canonical.com (this name looked like Russian).

If you go through the official archive mirrors list, you can check which rsync is more suitable for you:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors

Check which mirrors offer rsync, where they are, what is their speed and status.
To be on the safe side start with the Ubuntu rsync: rsync://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/
I don't know if ru.archive.ubuntu.com offers rsynch.
leningradskaya.canonical.com is totally unknow to us.

I slightly investigated. Looked like archive.ubuntu.com and ru.archive.ubuntu.com lead to the same pool of rsync servers. One of this servers is leningradskaya.canonical.com. Well, I will use ru.archive.ubuntu.com, may be this will have sense in future.
