Then installed Oracle Virual Box and installed WindowsXp therein the Virtualbox.

But now after 03 days, now the internet connection has stopped working on the Host i.e. Ubuntu 10.04 but is working on Virtualbox installed on the host.

when again I give the command pppoeconf and configure the Internet connection the result afer configuration I get is;

" plugin rp-pppoe. so loaded.

RP-PPPoE plugin version 3.8p compiled against pppd 2.4.5."
Please help.

Dear/s,

1. This I am typing from the Windows Computer, since now it seems the Internet has stopped
     working altogether bot on the virtual machine & the Host Ubuntu 10.04.

2. On the command sudo pppoeconf, the message spitted is I found two devices i.e. eth0 &
    virtualbox 0. On moving further with configuration it shows here as under;

   " plugin rp-pppoe. so loaded.

    RP-PPPoE plugin version 3.8p compiled against pppd 2.4.5."

3. DKMS was installed initially, prior to installation of Virtualbox, because it was instructed
    thereon the site of the Oracle (Ssun Java) Virtual Machine.

4. I am starting again the Ubuntu 10.04 to give the Output of cat /etc/resolv.conf, and then shall
     inform the result.

hmm, that could be an issue. that file sets up dns servers. Ok run this on the host:

gksudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf

add these 2 lines:

nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4

Save the new file, close gedit and ALL web browsers, then retry the internet

Dear/s,

I think I have pin pointed the problem here as under;

1. I experimented thrice by installing Ubuntu 10.04 afresh. Then installed Oracle VM VirtualBox

& found that the Problem arises when I try to Share Folders with the Host (Ubuntu 10.04),
by "Installing Guest Additions" in the Oracle VM VirtualBox.

Before that the Internet on the VirtualBox as well as HOST (Ubuntu 10.04) runs fine.

After Installing the "Guest Additions" Immediately it takes over the control on the Internet & it stops working on the HOST.

Under the light of the above please help how to share folders, as I have to Install Office & Other Software on the WindowsXP (Running in the Virtual machine)

Please help,

Bharat

Check the IPs of the host and guest, make sure they do not conflict

Started Ubuntu, installed dkms, build-essential, Virtualbox again.

Surprise my Windows XP Guest was still running & all problems are solved.

How did it happen ?

Had some thing had gone wrong in the / parttion ?

Thanks to all.
