Change application font size

Asked by Denis Daviau

The font that rosegarden uses for everything is difficult for me to read because I am visually impaired. I tried starting rosegarden with the --font option but that has no effect. The system appearance settings don't have any effect either. Do you have any suggestions?

Please go to the Main Menu and open

System > Preferences > Appearance

Then in the window that pops up, go to the tab that says 'Fonts' (the 3rd one)

In that tab, near the top, you will have 5 large buttons, they control how big each type of text on the system.

The first one controls how big application text will be

The second is how big text in documents will be

The third is the size of text on the Desktop

The forth, the size of the text in the windows title bar

And the fifth, how big the text in the terminal & other things is

To change any of these sizes, click the appropriate button and a window should pop up, on the right hand side of the window, select the font size you want and then click OK. The font size should then change.

You will have to experiment which is the best combination of size, but hopefully it should help you

(In the fonts tab, you may also want to select (at the bottom), the bottom left text rendering, this will give the most contrast.

Hope this Helps, if you have any trouble, please don't hesitate to reply!

Rosegarden is a KDE application, so you can try setting font size via KDE Control Center.
Install it with
  sudo apt-get install kcontrol
and run with "kcontrol". In a tree menu choose Appearance & Themes -> Fonts. There you can change size for any font used by KDE applications. You can also set option "Force fonts DPI" to 120 DPI, which should make Rosegarden's (and every other KDE app) font appear larger.
