update of root-system analysis package

Asked by Ben Loer

Hi all,

I've been using Ubuntu for a few years now, but never got involved in the development process; this seems like as a good a reason as any to jump in.

In a nutshell, I have several machines at home and in my lab running the ROOT data analysis framework, corresponding to the root-system package in ubuntu/debian. (Why on earth did they name it root? To make it impossible to find anything useful during a search as near as I can tell.) Anyway, the ROOT folks are now up to version 5.26, with 5.24 being the last stable release. Debian has adopted 5.24, but Ubuntu is still on 5.18 in Karmic.

It seems that updating the package should not be too difficult as the debian package exists, but I'll be the first to profess my ignorance in the matter. Does anyone know if an upgrade is already planned for the 10.04 release? If not I'll volunteer to help out however much a noob can.

Cheers,
~Ben

I was thinking about the same thing and looking for the work done, I found some pre-built packages here:

https://launchpad.net/~wdconinc/+archive/ppa

I wonder why they are not included in the official distribution... does some one knows why?

cheers,

Enrico

Sorry for the wrong information... it seems that packages provided at this link:
https://launchpad.net/~wdconinc/+archive/ppa
have some problems and they give build errors, I could not succeed to let them work :/

Can you help with this problem?
