ipod shows 'no music' after using rhythmbox in Karmic

Asked by Andrew dye

Hello

I am new to Ubuntu and have just got the 9.10 release. I have used my ipod with rhythmbox in ubuntu 9.04 and it worked pretty well on the whole. But now although I can see all my music on my ipod when in rhythmbox and I can even play it from there, when I eject the ipod it shows 'no music'. Help! My ipod is a 160GB classic, the files are all still on it but how do I get them to be recognized again on my ipod? I have downloaded Amarok and gtkipod manager but they dont seem to recognize the ipod at all.

thanks in advance.

Try to use Songbird it has a similar GUI than Itunes and in my experience is the best Ipod support I have try... maybe you can reorganize the files on Itunes in windows or mac and then try again if the files are not recognized after you try with Songbird.

Hope this help you

Thanks Pablo. I have given songbird a go..it is able to recognise the files on the ipod..just like rhythmbox but when I disconnect the ipod it still says 'no music'. Do I need to go to a computer that has itunes? (I hope not....)

If you can I recomend you to sync the ipod with Itunes. I don't think that you could fix the Ipod any other way... But is not a bad news, you can install Itunes with Wine on your Ubuntu

http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2008-March/063095.html

if you don't know Wine is a program that allows you to install windows programs in Linux, and in that way you can use thouse programs with almost no problem. http://www.winehq.org and on http://appdb.winehq.org/index.php theres a list of windows programs that work on linux with wine.

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1347 there is the Itunes page on wine appDB

Hope this help you...

Pd: you can try on other PC with Itunes or install windows on virtualbox and use Itunes from there...

Can you help with this problem?
