Yes, I can import them into the rhyth box player , but they will not play.
They are Acc format specific to Itunes. I need to convert them to an mp3 or
4 i guess. ???

The format is aac not acc.

I would advice you to use amarok or some other player if you want to play your aac files as rhythmbox player doesnot support it. Else you can convert to mp3 to play it on rhythmbox.

Okay, I guess, you don't want to convert m4a (the file extension actually is not aac, but m4a) into mp3 because rhythmbox already supports playing m4a. (If you don't know how have a look at this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/ And if you still want to convert m4a to mp3 or ogg or whatever click on Applications > Software Center, search for "Sound Converter" and install that program.)

But I guess, what you really want to do is convert an m4p - which is the DRM-protected format of files bought in the Itunes Music Store - into mp3 or ogg. I had the same problem and it cost me months to discover a solution which will last a very long time since I have a lot of m4p files, but it is the only way to play the music you paid for on any installation of Linux.
- Open your Windows installation, make sure you have Itunes installed and activated (somewhere like Extras > Activate computer).
- Buy Tunebite (http://tunebite.com/).
- Convert your files with that one. I recommend using a free format like OGG Vorbis so you will never have trouble like this again...
- After you have converted all your files (which can take you weeks, maybe you put them in several different directories and do the work in tiny bits) you can import them into Rhythmbox. You will lose all the data from the Itunes database with that (ratings, times played etc.).

Oh, by the way: The solution I suggested you is 100% legal because you don't remove the DRM protection of the digital data, but with programs like Tunebite you make an analogue copy without touching the DRM protection.
