Extract individual songs from a CD

Asked by sw_emigre

I cannot seem to extract just a single song from a CD. I know someone answered this by stating, just hit control+ songs you want, but for me that highlights the songs, but when you try and extract, it still goes and takes every song. I have Ubuntu 9 and Rhythmbox 0.12. Thanks for your help!

One more thing.Open nautilus>edit>settings>media>CD audio set to ask what to do.Same with music player and on the bottom check browse media when inserted. After that you can try with above.

Is it a good idea to start thinking about moving to a differnt music-player, such as Songbird? I don't like Banshee because it's based on Mono which seems to be an accident waiting to happen despite Microsquishes promises. I have heard their promises before.

Thanks for trying zvacet, but it did not answer the question. I want to EXTRACT, also called IMPORT, just one song on a CD. I can listen to the songs fine.

Dont think rhythmbox has support for ripping cd's.
I installed k3b to "rip" files from the CD.

sudo apt-get install k3b

K3b is good but it is a KDE version which means that installing it will drag in huge amounts of extra packages and programs! One quick way to nearly double the hard-drive space that the Ubuntu OS takes up!

Brasero is the Gnome equivalent and has the "make an Audio Cd" option too. It might not look quite so much like Nero and many of the best options appear AFTER pressing "burn" the 1st time but it is pretty good too.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
