HI, it's unclear why it's going wrong like this. Hopefully the command-line might be able to give us a clue. I've not seen this problem happen either so at least we know it's possible to fix whatever's gone wrong. Ok, on a command-line
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UsingTheTerminal
please type in

rhythmbox

and that should open rhythmbox as normal? Did it only work when you pressed the keyboards uparrow to repeat the command? Did the terminal window show any error messages or anything? If so please copy&paste them into here.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Oh great. The main thing is tat it is working now. Hopefully it was some update or fixing of packages or something but whatever you did the fixed it I'm glad because that was just a very weird problem that really shuldn't have happened.

Congrats on fixing it :)))
Regards from
Tom :)
