Rhythmbox takes up full screen when launched, window size cannot be adjusted

Asked by lupv

When I launch rhythmbox, it takes up entire screen and cannot be resized (title bar is missing too). This just happened recently. I am pressing 'alt-tab' to go to the different windows for other apps. I've tried pressing the usual control keys that continue to allow me to adjust the sizes of other windows, but the size of the rhythmbox window is not affected and remains full screen.

How can I fix this?

Open Rhythmbox, click on "View" on the menu bar and take the tick out of "Party Mode" - or press F11.

If that does not fix it, disable Compiz temporarily.

Party Mode is not ticked. Window just shifts slightly to the right when pressing F11 but still cannot resize.

Please explain about Compiz.

Actually I was able to drag the window down (revealing the title bar) after pressing F11 and then manually resize it. So that seems to work. And after quitting rhythmbox and then launching it again, it appears in the resized smaller size.

Probably accidentally pressed F11 when cleaning my desk.

Still curious about Compiz...

Thanks Andre Mangan, that solved my question.

Try holding ALT. You can then drag the window at any point on the window. You can then maximise the window an hopefully its position will be remembered.

Re Compiz:
The standard windows manager in Ubuntu is Metacity. If you have special desktop effects enabled, such as "the cube" or "wobbly windows" then you are using Compiz as your windows manager.
When Compiz is enabled, you occasionally get temporary side effects such as missing title bars.
There are several windows managers available - Metacity and Compiz are just two of them.
