I can not import songs from comp to ipod.

I imported songs from my ipod to my computer. Deleted the songs from the ipod, then tried to upload the same songs with new ones added, as well as videos that are in .mp3 to the ipod. I try to upload the songs to the ipod but I'm not able to select them, I have tried every which way to make it possible but am very unsuccessful. I download the music videos from youtube, the songs from frostwire. The ipod seems to be unresponsive also, when I attempt to eject a error message occurs, but if I do not try to add songs to the ipod and eject it is successful.
Please help me as soon as possible.

What version of Ubuntu are you using? Also what ipod are you using, if you don't know the specifics you can look here to find out: http://ipodlinux.org/wiki/Generations
