Sure it can. Examples how to make it work.
Go to shoutcast web page, select the radio you want to listen and by clicking in Tune In, it will ask you to download a *.pls file. By default in my machine it will open it with Rhythmbox so as soon I download it, it starts playing the radio. In case it does not work that way with you, just download the file and open it from Rhythmbox to make it recognize and play the radio.
In case you know the URL of the radio you want to listen to, in the main menu you have an option to write it right away. In my case with Control+I I can introduce the shoutcast URL without using the menu.

Hope this helps.

this could be an usability report that i done here Does Not auto play when has been inserted into it

you need to goto Radio after clicking on the link that sends it to Rhythmbox

(i am dropping to an New user level report as playing an mp3 stream should be simple) when clicking on winamp stream it does not auto play until you click on radio then it lists it in there there is no stop button, how to fix so new users are Not cunfused on why it does not play (Most users do not try every button to make it work as i had to do) When an Mp3/audio file or stream it should auto play and maybe Switch to the Type of source (you need to Make the Source box Wider as i missed the Radio souce at first) i am wanting to report more problems like this that Linux should be simple not complex so if you do not mind me reporting more of these or do you have an better place to report usability problems with programs in ubuntu/Kubuntu (i cant play www.fi.fm at on all kubuntu)

is there an better place to report usability problems with programs in ubuntu/Kubuntu

I got rhythmbox to play .pls just fine. The problem was that my firewall was preventing the cast from working. I opened the port in my firewall and it worked fine.

with my ubuntu jaunty, Rhythmbox 0.12.0 and firefox 3.0.13 (ubuntu) it wont "autoplay" the listen.pls link (like from shoutcast.com etc) . it just starts the rhythmbox player and "adds" the radio.

thats just all!

To listen ill have to switch to "radio", lookup the added station and double click. Thats not very convenient!

It realy should autoplay when started from browser with such a shoutcast link.

BTW: interesting thing is, that rhythmbox DOES autoplay if you start it on the Console like this:

rhythmbox http://radio.108.pl:8004/listen.pls

in this case it adds the station AND autoplays it. STRANGE!! Why doesnt it autoplay started within firefox ?!?

Can you help with this problem?
