My iPhone 3G does not show up in Rhythmbox

Asked by wim

I would like to use my iPhone 3G with Rhytmbox just like I do with my iPod. In other words I would like Rhythmbox to be able to read the contents of the iTunes that I have loaded to my iPod. What can I do to get this done?

Dear Juan Carlos,
I am really sorry, but I do not understand your answer. If I try to follow the links my screen in Firefox stays empty.

I was a bit to fast, when I copy your links to Firefox modules are automatically opened in Rhythmbox. I installed those that were not already installed, but Rhythmbox still not see my iPhone 3G.

If my iPhone would be my own and not my company phone I would consider using Jailbreak. But in this case I do not want to do that. I was wondering whether the wiz kids that made Rhythmbox could help me. Rhythmbox work great with the iPod, so why should it not be able to work with an iPhone?

There is a sense in which an iPod is like an external hard drive and an iPhone is like a small laptop. Thinking in these terms, it would be very easy to get information on and off an iPod, because all it does is store information (mp3s, etc). An iPhone is more complicated as it has access control, a more fully featured operating system, etc..

Free Software developers are very clever, so I wouldn't be too surprised if they were eventually able to get iPhones working with Rhythmbox, but I wouldn't hold your breath. It seems like a much more complicated problem than access to an iPod.
