I downloaded the file from deviantdark.altavista.org/?p=438, but I couldn't figure out how to unpack it to /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins. Forgive me, I have been using ubuntu for about one week. I'm still a newbie.

tar -xzvf rhythmbox-equalizer.tar.gz

check to see if that directory lives..
ls /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins
it will list the directory contents..

if cd to the desktop "default download area"
when you "tar -xzvf rhythmbox-equalizer.tar.gz" it has a directory "equalizer/"
you must copy whole "equalizer/" directory.
to the plugins folder.

Sorry to keep bothering you, but I'm stumped. I did this in terminal, and it listed the files.

cp -R equalize/  /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins

However, when I did this...

cp -R equalize/  /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins

I get an error that says...

cp: cannot stat `equalize/': No such file or directory
