ipod wont play music after sync with rhythmbox

Asked by Woodsy

Hi,

I am new to Linux and Ubuntu. My computer savvy friend assured me that after installing Ubuntu 7.10 and associated updates, I would be able to use Rhythmbox to manage my 3G iPod Nano. After plugging in my ipod, Rhythmbox successfully connected to it, with the ipod itself displaying the Synchronizing message.

I played a few songs from my iPod with Rhythmbox, and downloaded a few podcasts. After seeing that Rhythm\box appeared to have synchronized the podcasts to the iPod, I contentedly ejected it using first Rhythmbox then again from the desktop.

I was then amazed to find that my ipod registered as having no music at all, just a whole lot of 'other.'

I have backups of all the music so am happy to format or whatever else is required. All I really want to be able to do is play music and podcasts. If I can play movies and view photos etc, thats a bonus.

Cheers
Woodsy

Bloody hell, that was fast.

I worked my way through the instructions from the link above and all appeared to be going well, however one of the last pieces of code actually removed rhythmbox completely.

I reinstalled rhythmbox and am back to where I started. I don't know much about installing Linux on my ipod, but would that work? If I did, would I be able to say, reinstall standard apple software at a later date, just in case I needed to?
