No CD Sound

Asked by fswat

I have tried everything and been into every Sound
option that I could find but still have no sound
output. There is a chapter in the Ubuntu Book that
reads about Codecs and installing the necessary audio
codec (gstreamer) software. When I do a search in
Synaptic Package Manager there are so many of them. Do
I install them all?

There must be something that needs to be configured or
loaded that I can't get to or do not have the
knowledge what codec / gstreamer needs to be
installed.

I also installed Rhythmbox and it plays the CD tracks
but still no sound. Same with Juicer it plays tracks
but still no sound. Yet, when I use XMMS Music Player
I get sound from the Internet sites?

Does anyone have any insight?

Frank

I had a cable issue. My CD was plugged into my Sound Blaster sound card and speaker out to the speakers. My Motherboard also had onboard sound outputs. I plugged the CD into the Motherboard CD1 and then switched the speakers to the Motherboard Speaker out. Then the sound worked.

However, the sound quality is poor; not sure why. I also went into the BIOS and there is no control options for the onboard sound.

Some how I have to figure out why I can't get the Audio to work through the Sound Blaster card?
