Group different Artists of a Compilations

Asked by comicinker

When I import a music collection containing many different Artists, rhythmbox creates a folder for every single of them. Furthermore Rhythmbox lists every single Artist in the Music Browser. Quickly, the Music browser becomes confusing. I liked the compilation grouping of iTunes (v. 5 up) and miss it in every Gnome based musicplayer / mediamanager. Is compilation grouping planned for Rhythmbox or another Gnome based musicplayer?

why don't you try one of the following?

1] http://banshee-project.org/
(Supports all kinds of grouping and album cover stuff)

2] http://bmpx.backtrace.info/site/BMPx_Homepage

3] http://www.listen-project.org/
("Listen is an audio player written in Python. Thanks to it, you can easily organize your music collections.")

If you like something more clean like Winamp 2.x try "Audacious"! ;-)

I don't think that solves the general problem.
the "browse by" setting should support "browse by albumartist + something else".
Otherwise you can't sort your compilations nor your albums with some additionally feautured artists, - it's a complete mess.

Banshee doesn't work either, though compilation support is better. But still banshee neither offers any way to replace the "browse by artist + album" with "browse albumartist + album". Same mess.

I followed this topic in many forums and there's hundreds of threads asking for a way to organize your music like itunes does.
Not because anyone loves apple more than gnome but because apple researched a very good usability on searching your music collection. SO why not use it?

I don't understand why any question in that direction seems to be completely ignored. An option in gconf to choose which tag the browser of rhythmbox will use to order the library will do.

Thx for reading, piedro
