Can't connect to my local radio station

Asked by Dragun

I click on the local radio icon and a window appears which informs me that:
You have chosen to open "Listen.pls" which is a: MP3 Shoutcast playlist from: http://live.str3am.com:2570
When asked what should Firefox do with this file? I click on "Open with" and then Rhythmbox Music Player (default).

The Music Player now opens up, so i click on Music -> New Internet Radio Station and enter the URL of my local radio station. Which is: www.radioacen.fm. I then clicked on "Add". It was then added to the list of radio stations, but when i highlighted it and clicked on play all i got was the following:

Couldn't start playback
You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file.
You might need to install the necessary plugins.

Help someone please!

Hello

as an alternative to rythmbox you can try installing xmms..

you need to have extra repositories enabled..
To enable all the software repositories do ref this link..

http://www.arsgeek.com/?p=2794

after getting all the required repositories enabled

Type the following command in a terminal (applications -> accessories -> terminal)

sudo aptitude install xmms

then Save a .pls file to your desktop. Right click on the file and go to properties. Choose the tab "open with" and pick xmms (you may need to find in on your drive)

Note: To have extra codecs installed on your system ref:
