could not read from network resource

Asked by howman

Rhythmbox does not play music imported from a windows network location. I get the error, "Could not read from resource."
Steps to reproduce problem:
1 Open rhythmbox
2 Music -> import folder
3 select folder from a computer on a windows network running XP Pro SP2
4 select Open
Errors occur on import.

On single file import or drag and drop, error is : "Problem occurred without error being set. This is a bug in Rhythmbox or GStreamer."

MP3 files play fine as long as they are on my local Linux system but not if I try to play them off a networked windows system.

All the folders I tried to import over the network also contained Album art files, (.jpg's) and desktop.ini files.

I'm having the exact same issue with a fresh install of Edgy.

i'm having this problem as well with a clean install of Edgy.

i'm not sure if this problem is specific to Rythembox as i can't get anything to open from an SMB share.

I think there's something weird/wrong with the Samba implementation, I came up with a workaround which I posted here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=286618. Works for me, but there must be a better way.

Can you help with this problem?
