There are simpler ways to transfer music than trying to install windows media player. What phone (and what os is it running) the are you using?

Simplest option =plug in phone to usb port. On your android phone an icon should pop up "charging only" in notification pull down menu. Click it. You should be able to select "mount as disk drive", this will let ubuntu see your phone as a memory stick. Navigate to music and put files there.

i just figured it out, im an idiot.

they give you a series of usb connection types. your supposed to choose 'Camera(PTP)' if all the other connection types aren't supported.
