how to add metadata to music files

Some of my music files have no metadata, so in rhythmbox they have the 'unknown' label for title, artist, gentre, etc.
If I right click the song in rhythmbox I am able to change the metadata for rhythmbox itself, however the metada is not added to the file itself. is there a way to do so (using rhythmbox or another app)?

Yes ,

you can use EasyTag.

Install it through Software Center .. search for : easytag

Very good tool IMHO.

easytag is great. it can also go through folders to mass tag files. its basically a GUI for id3tag
