Rhythmbox stops playing Bug #978604

Asked by John M Hancock

This bug has been open since April. I recently received an email indicating that the bug had been fixed. Sadly I have lost (foolishly deleted) the email. The bug was introduced, I believe with 12.04 and Rhythmbox 2.96 and persists in 12.10 and Rhythmbox 2.97.

I live in daily hope that the fix will show up in Software Updater. Do I need to take a more active role in fixing this issue or should I expect a fix to be delivered via Software Updater.

If you make a fresh Ubuntu user, does it do the same?
Does it happen in other players?

Yes, it happens to new users and also in Banshee. From the discussion, it appears that the problem is with the underlying pulse-audio. This question is not about the bug itself. The bug is well documented. Please see the discussion related to bug 978604. There are other related and duplicate entries for this bug.

I am surprised that a bug that was introduced with the installation of 12.04 persists in 12.10 for an application that is delivered as a part of the OS installation. My question is really about how long I should wait for a fix before abandoning the application in favor of another non-afficted application, such as Clementine.

Can't help but can confirm the behavour - it just stops playing. HAd to kill it and restart to resume the playlist (off CD).

Can you help with this problem?
