Please check and change your song file owner and permissions....
Open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal

Change directory to your ext3 local hard-disk song dir:

cd /.../your_song_dir/

be sure to be into right dir, type pwd to check:

pwd

sudo chown -R youruser.youruser *

substitute your user with your real username

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

If you song are on NTFS mounted disk please give read and write permission to the mounted disk.

Hope this helps

Or you can use adifferent software made for the purpose, like easyTAG (guess you can find it in Synaptic).
There are still some common problems doing tag-editing in rythmbox.

Another good tagging software is Audio Tag Tool (package name is "tagtool").

Another good tagging software is Quod libet (package name is "quodlibet").

quodlibet - audio library manager and player for GTK+
quodlibet-ext - extensions for the Quod Libet audio player
quodlibet-plugins - various contributed plugins for Quod Libet

Hope this helps
