I think what I have reported is the bug, no?

Other players don't have such problem. I have tried practically all of the players available for Ubuntu OS. I also re-installed Rhythmbox several times to no avail.

if it only affects rhythmbox then its a bug with the player. You can run:

ubuntu-bug rhythmbox

To start the process

the kbps in an audio file has nothing to do with how loud the file is when played. it only signify the quality of the file. a higher kbps indicates a higher quality, lower kbps lower quality. you'll need a sound mixer to adjust the loudness. goldwave is a pretty good program. it's written for windoze but will run under wine.

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for your answer.

Based on what you are saying, how is it then possible that all other
players apart from Rhythmbox are playing 320kbps much louder than lower
kbps?

Pavel

Rhythmbox 2.95 plays 200kbps louder than 320kbps. Isn't it supposed to be the opposite? I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 on amd-64 bit architecture. Replay Gain plugin is off.

If somebody as Marcus would say that the kbps have nothing to do with the audio quality and thus loudness, then I recommend checking this link: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_difference_between_128kbps_and_320_kbps_mp3_files

Since no sensible response to my question was presented yet, I would still greatly appreciate any reply regarding this still unsolved issue!

Thanks,

Pavel
