Radio file formats

Asked by John Jason Jordan

I can get Rhythmbox on my Gutsy x86_64 computer to play streaming radio stations if the stream is .pls or .m3u. But .asx, .rpm, .rm, .ram, .smi and .smil won't work. Trying any of these usually crashes Rhythmbox. Is there a fix for this?

Thanks for the suggestions. I already have RealPlayer installed and it plays all the formats that I can't get working in Rhythmbox. However, this is not a good solution because:

1) Like all loyal Ubuntians, I prefer to avoid commercial closed-source software
2) RealPlayer is the only app on my computer that cannot output to bluetooth devices.

I have about 40 internet radio stations bookmarked in Rhythmbox. But there are several that I'd like to add that Rhythmbox cannot handle. I am hoping for a plugin or utility that will allow me to play .ram, .rm, .rpm, .smil and .asx with Rhythmbox. I need to use Rhythmbox to listen to these streams because my headphones are bluetooth (Sony DR-BT50, awesome sound) and RealPlayer cannot send sound to bluetooth devices. Yes, it's lame, but that's what you get when you use commercial software from a vendor who doesn't care.

Is there any way to get Rhythmbox to handle streaming audio in these formats? Or is it at least on the roadmap? At least some of them?

I think the better solution is to ask to developers http://www.gnome.org/projects/rhythmbox/

If you find solution or additional info please drop some note here.

Hope this help
