Plugins in right place (maybe) but not recognised

Asked by Si Dedman

Hi. I've unpacked plugins to
home/.gnome2/rhythmbox/plugins but they're not recognised on rhythmbox restart. So i copied them to
usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins but it did nothing. This seems to be the folder with the default plugins in... what gives? Do i need to do anything more?

Apologies that this seems to be a really simple question... i've installed plugins in 11.04 which no problems.
Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks

Maybe try:
~/.local/share/rhythmbox/plugins

nope, no joy there. Although it DID crash when i restarted the first time. But they're not there on firing it up a second time (i don't know if they were there the first time - died too fast)

just copied them to usr/share/rhythmbox/plugins
also no effect. Starting to wonder how many rhythmbox plugins folder locations there are scattered around ubuntu, and more importantly, why that number isn't '1'.

/usr/share... or ~/.local/share... should be correct for third party plugins. Maybe logout-in helps.
At least some plugin installation instructions there refer to ~/.gnome2 as old.

restart does nothing. plugins remain in all 4 locations. i can't imagine that presence of them in one place would mean that they don't get installed irrespective if they're also in the right place. Any other thoughts?

I've also tested a third party plugin on all locations we mentioned above, nothing.
Same issue was asked there, obviously unsolved.

Maybe search bugzilla if this is reported already, but I assume they won't accept a bug report involving third party plugins.

Sam, cheers for having a look. In the end i've given up with rhythmbox as i had to do a fresh install so am having another go with banshee. It does seem a shame that there isn't a fully formed feature rich music player for linux, but i guess it'll come in time.
