Rhythmbox "Unable to transfer tracks" message when select "Extract to Library"

Asked by Matt Hegarty

Have bought a new CD. Rhythmbox correctly identifies it as an audio CD and will play it back ok.
However, when I right-click on the CD and select "extract to library" I get the message:

"Unable to transfer tracks None of the tracks to be transferred are in a format supported by the target device, and no encoders are available for the supported formats"

Properties of the file on the CD are:

WAV audio (audio/x-wav)
Codec is "Uncompressed 16-bit PCM audio"

Is this is a bug?

Have you tried dragging and dropping individual tracks? I have managed to do it that way but am quite stuck on a new cd which I've managed to transfer some of the tracks from but not others.

The only way I found to do it was:

copy the files manually from the CD to a tmp folder
open each wav file with Audacity (Audacity reported each file as 'Microsoft wav')
Export to MP3 320
Set all tag properties
Then move the tmp folder into my Music folder
Then import into Rhythmbox

Painstaking but worked!

Believe it or not I finally found the fix to this as follows:

Select

Edit / Preferences /
Select "Music" tab
Change "Preferred Format" to "CD Quality, MP3" (was MP2)

That solved it!
