How do you reset the library?

Asked by Keith

i have a large music collection of about 6000 songs. When I imported them into Rhythmbox, I saw that it duplicated many of the files. There aren't any actual duplicates of the files, but it appears so in the library so I want to reset it or remove all the duplicates. I have already tried searching Google with this problem, but there is no help for Ubuntu 10.10(maverick meerkat) that I am using.

Any help?

This might do what you need:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1078839&page=4

If not, this might do what you need:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=929783

If not, I don't know of another way to remove duplicates, but you can clear your entire music library by selecting all your songs (Ctrl+A), right clicking, and clicking Remove. (Don't click "Move to Trash"!)

If none of that does what you need, please post again.

Thank you for the help, but nothing I have tried so far has worked. The plugin does not work on meerkat, and the script does not work because there is no rhythmboxdb file in meerkat either.

After even more searching, I came across a python script that appeared to work:

But when I re-opened rhythmbox, it re-added all the duplicates that had just been removed! Very aggravating. This appears to be a bug only on 10.10

I'd recommend reporting this as a bug affecting Rhythmbox in Ubuntu. To do that, read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs carefully first. If you report this as a bug, you can link this question and the bug to each other by using the "Link existing bug" link at the top of this page. However, your bug report should be self-contained; developers should not have to refer back to this question in order to fully understand your bug report.

If you choose to report this issue as a bug, you should do that before using the following advice.

Try getting a later version of Rhythmbox by adding this PPA to your software sources (the page explains how) and updating your system:
https://launchpad.net/~webupd8team/+archive/rhythmbox

That might fix the problem.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Keith for more information if necessary.
