import CD tracks in mp3 format

Asked by Steve Redshaw

I have been exploring the answers for Rhythmbox, but this issue doesn't seem to have been answered - I am using 0.13.1 0n Ubuntu 10.10

I cannot rip CD tracks in mp3 format, and therefore I cannot transfer them to my iPod (I have to use Banshee for that as it automatically converts the .ogg files to a format the iPod will receive)

I have '0.10.16-1 (gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly)' installed, however RhythmBox only gives me 'CD quality mp2' amongst the preferred fomat options

'CD quality mp3' is listed if I click the EDIT button and has the Gstreamer pipeline;

audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lamemp3enc name=enc target=0 quality=6 ! xingmux ! id3v2mux (not that I understand what this is!!)

however it does not appear in the preferred formats list of options

please advise, is this a bug?

ripping CD tracks with RhythmBox works great (right-click on the CD title in left-hand pane and choose Extract to library), it just that I can't get the racks in mp3 format, only .ogg, which is ok, but can't then transfer to iPod!! (well not using RhythmBox)
