how do you upload the mp3 decoder for the music player

Do you mean howto play mp3 and such?
Go to 'Ubuntu Software Center' (Applications > Ubuntu Software Center) and search for 'ubuntu-restricted-extras'.
Install that package. It might be that you first have to enable something (it will show you loud and clear).
