using your own cover art images

Asked by 4levels

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to use my own images as Album Cover art.

I happen to have a lot of the covers scanned or downloaded myself and I'd love to have them used by rhythmbox instead of the downloaded ones from Amazon (do they disappear after a while, like it used to be with Amarok?)
I've had a look at the LocalCoverArtSearch.py script in the /usr/share/rhythmbox/plugins/artdisplay directory but I'm not shure if I 'understand' the script completely. Does someone care to explain what this script does to find your local artwork? In other words, what are the instructions for having your local album art displayed in the Album Cover pane of rhythmbox? I'd like to keep the images separated from the music itself...

I'm currently running Feisty/Beryl on a Dell i6000 laptop (2004) dualboot XPH-SP2

Thx already for reading this, hope to hear from you soon!
Keep up the great job ;-)

Hello!

In order to display your own cover, you need:
1. put it into the same folder as the album
2. make sure the filename for the cover looks like cover.jpg, Cover.jpeg, cover.png, etc.

Hope this helps :)

Allright, this helps indeed!
Thanks a lot for the quick response! Is there any way to start a chat right now? ;-)

Still the issue exists: with a lot of music files in the same folder you can only assign one image to all the songs as they all reside in the same folder (but have different albums actually) especially if your music is organised by artist and not by album.
A new question is what happens with the downloaded album art? Is it placed in the album folder as eg. cover.jpg?

Thx again for the kind response!

Nope, the downloaded artwork is stored in ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/covers.

If you have lots of music albums in the same folder, you have to put your covers into ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/covers.

The filename for the cover should look like <Artist> - <Album>.jpg, e. g.:
"Lonah - Pièces.jpg"

That's it!

You are just amazing, that solves the whole issue!
I guess symlinking the ~/.gnome2/rhuthmbox/covers to whatever folder I have will just work as well...

Supergreat, Problem Solved indeed!
