Artist names are sorted incoherently

Asked by Holstener Liesel on 2010-09-27

Since Lucid, it seems that RB will sort the artist names of newly added tracks differently while simultaneously keeping the sorting order of older tracks.

Example: In my collection, "Bob Dylan" is sorted under B. "Van Morrison": M. "The Beatles": B. "The Velvet Underground": T. It's a mess. I don't consider re-adding everything to my database a viable solution since that'll cost me a ton of meta data. Right clicking and manually modifying half of the "Sort" tags seems a drag, too.

Is this behavior a bug, is it intended?

EDIT: After further inquiry, the culprit may well be Sound Juicer, setting an unsolicited artistsort-tag.

You might check out comment #3 for bug 1087017 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/1087017/comments/3), for the way I ""fixed"" some sorting problems with rhythmbox. It worked for me, YMMV.

Can you help with this problem?
