plugins for Rhythmbox?

Asked by maxx2298

I have newly installed Linux on my comp., and am having trouble finding an audio player that plays and manages music from my ipod. XMMS plays some of the music when I enqueue from gtkpod, but I was hoping that Rhythmbox might be better able to handle this. Unfortunately, I get the same error message with everysong - no decoders to handle the stream. Where can I find the plugins to play both music on my ipod, and m4a files?

H i maxx2298,

Try install Automatix,

- Open your sources.list

$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

- Add following line

deb http://www.beerorkid.com/automatix/apt dapper main

- Save and execute in the terminal the following commands

$ gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv-keys 521A9C7C
$ gpg --export --armor 521A9C7C | sudo apt-key add -
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install automatix

Execute the atumatix and select Multimedia codecs to install

Best Regards,

Please DO NOT install automatix, it's uses potentially unsafe methods of doing things which could break your system. Going the way Ben Hodgett reccomended - visiting https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats is the best way.
