Rythembox wont transfer music to my ipod and none of the previous question wont work for me

welllll, i have no itunes. I only have ubuntu. i tried going to apps-plugins-ipod and unchecking the "active" box and restarting rythembox. but my ipod wont show up unless the "active box is checked". i cant delete a folder. i go to apps-plugins i press delete nothing happens so i right click and no windows pops up so i go to apps-plugins-ipod and same thing. like i said i have no itunes so i cant restore it. much appreciated if you could help me
