rhythmbox import from folder seems to choke after ~1220 files

I attempted to import a folder containing several thousand MP3s.
The process stopped after approximately 1220 had been scanned
without an error message. Most of the files do not appear in any
of the displays, so I take it they have not been imported. I am
wondering if there is some upper limit; I do not see anything about
it in the documentation.
