Ipod Shuffle 4th gen firmware 1.1 on Ubuntu 10.04

Asked by Andrew Charpentier

I have an ipod shuffle 4th generation with firmware 1.1, I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, I have medibuntu install and the package for plugins in Rhythm box. The problem I'm having is when I transfer music to the ipod it shows that its transfered, than once I try to listen to my ipod shuffle it tells me in a voice, "please sync music to your ipod with itunes". Now the weirdest part is when i boot from ubuntu into windows 7 and open up itunes all the music appears that I transfered in ubuntu with rhythm box, then when I play it its fine, I don't have any of this music in windows 7, I only have it for compatibility reason and windows 7 has a 40 gig partition while ubuntu has 256 gigs and all my musics. What can I do to allow me to listen to the music in my ipod that I transfered with rhythm box in ubuntu. I don't want to have to go to windows 7 everytime I want to listen to music. Please help me, and thank you for your time reading.

try using gtkpod. ipods ideally need itunes and you have a media player from one of the most close minded software companies around and this causes issues.

You CAN run some versions of itunes in some versions of wine.

thank you very much, I tired gtkpod that didn't work ether, I can just transfer all my music files and plug it into a windows computer than the ipod registers that it has music, thank you for you help though, Apple needs to be a little more open minded in the future
