Rhythmbox shortcut problem

Asked by fracor

Hi there,
I have a strange problem with Rhythmbox and I can't deal with it!

Suddenly and without I have done anything, the key 'A' has been linked to the action 'Play', as I can see shown in the Controls Menu.
I don't know how it could be possible because you can not edit the shortcuts whitin Rhythmbox programme.

This is really annoying because now I can't digit any word containing 'A' without play/stop the music so I can't use Rhythmbox properly.
Please help me and tell me how I can modify this setting again!

I'm looking forward to hearing from you and thank you very much!!

Perhaps you have set the keyboard shortcut of "Play/Pause" to 'A'.

Could you go to System>Preferences>Keyboard Shortcuts and see if "Play (or play/pause)" is set to a key that it shouldn't be?

Hey! Thank you for answering.

I already tried to set different shortcuts in Ubuntu but the problem is with Rhythmbox.
The shortcuts set in Ubuntu's preference work properly.
As I already said, the problem is that new shortcut has been set in Rhythmbox somehow even though I'm not able to edit it.
I can see the key linked in the Controls Menu but no way to change it!!

Hate to rehash on this, but you can set multiple shortcuts in GNOME. Rhythmbox is integrated into GNOME and listens for that shortcut. Try highlighting the shortcut and deleting it with 'Backspace' before setting a new one.

If that is still a problem, I guess you could try to purge the package with configurations:

sudo apt-get purge rhythmbox

But you'd have to re-configure the whole program (including importing your music library)

I already know how GNOME shortcuts work and in fact my multiple shortcuts set by Ubuntu configuration work perfect in Rhythmbox.
The problem, I repeat, is that Rhythmbox settings changed somehow and I can't editi them again!

I already tried to purge the program and install again but it seems not to work. Main settings remain unchanded...

Here's the core editing file for rhythmbox shortcuts:

/home/cornwall/.gnome2/accels/rhythmbox

search for this line:

; (gtk_accel_path "<Actions>/MainActions/ControlPlay"

and replace it with the default:

; (gtk_accel_path "<Actions>/MainActions/ControlPlay" "<Control>space")

save, close, restart Rhythmbox

Hello,

I searched the /home/<YOURUSER>/.gnome2/accels/rhythmbox

for "search" accelerator, but I don't find one.

I want to have a shortcut to type into the SEARCH box quickly.

Is there one?

Looking forward to hearing from you and thank you very much!

Unfortunately, I don't know of any way to do that. It's very sad that Rhythmbox doesn't adhere to its own HIG. It SHOULD be <ctrl>F but that only supplies a useless, buggy text box.

I recommend Banshee ;)

Well, it's really sad.

Thank you all the same!

I'm used to using rhythmbox, I think I can stand this regret.
