Rhythmbox would not remember the location of my music files after reboot.

Asked by Ashkan_Akhavein

I have installed Lucid on a USB flashdrive(a full installation not just a Live/boot USB thumbdirve), but my music files are located elsewhere on a hard disk drive, NOT in the "Music" or any other folder of my Ubuntu "Home" folder on the USB flashdrive where
Ubuntu is installed.

I set the music folder address in edit>preferences menu of Rhythmbox and it imports and creates my music library and
everything is OK until I reboot the machine when all my settings are reset and Rhythmbox again looks for music files in
the "Home" folder located on the USB flashdrive where Ubuntu is installed.

Any help is highly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

I just figured it out and thought I might share it with everyone:

Windows "NTFS" drive are NOT mounted at Ubuntu startup by default(only Ubuntu EXT3/4 drives are mounted),
and if music files are stored on Windows "NTFS" drives/volumes, Rhythmbox can't access them and begins to empty
the library(when the "Watch" options is marked).

The same is true for Torrent clients such as Transmission when download folder is located on Windows "NTFS" volumes, the client cannot resume downloading.

The solution is to mount drives/volumes at startup and before running Rhythmbox, Transmission, ...
There are to ways to do this: you can either mount them manually, by simply clicking on the volume name in "Places" menu, or you cant set Ubuntu to automatically mount drives at startup which is a little more tricky and explained in this guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AutomaticallyMountPartitions

Best of luck!
