Cant get Rhythmbox to read wma files

Asked by Glenn Smith

I have installed Lucid from the CD
I can't get Rhythmbox to read wma files
I have tried installing the Win32 codec package from Medibuntu, but it didn't help.

(I think Rhytmbox uses gstreamer...)
I have found a way of getting gstreamer updated :
Open Firefox, open a wma music file from the menu (File, Open a file...)
Firefox will report that greffons are missing, and the correct greffons will be installed for gstreamer.

Rhytmbox now also reads wma files.

If wma is one of the main gstreamer plugins then installing gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad and gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly in synaptic will probably do it (or just install ubuntu-restricted-extras which contains the above plus other codecs and things)
