Add the VLC ppa to your software sources and install it via: sudo apt-get install vlc
or:all new VLC versions are now published on getdeb.net:

I would suggest follow the instructions here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-ubuntu.html. Thru this method, the required dependencies will be installed and your pc will be setup to receive updates to the program if any become available.

Can you help with this problem?
