Does your wireless card work-out-of-the-box? Can you see an option which says "Enable wireless" when right-clicking on the gnome-network-manager icon?

If your answer is YES, then you could simple left-click on the gnome-network-manager icon and select the ESSID of your wireless network. When asked of password, input the correctly configured wireless security password.

HTH.
