Redmine: Update?

Asked by bsides

Hi guys,

First of all thanks for doing this package for easy install of redmine software.

I just wonder: is an update going out anytime soon? It's already at version 1.2.1 and some plugins really require this version. If it's not in your plans, could you please explain or point where I can find a guide to upgrade it? It seems a little more complex than getting the sources because apt-get made a lot of folders that isn't build in with redmine so... since I run a production server only I'm afraid of testing things out (like replacing files).

Thanks for your help, regards from Brazil

Thank you very much.

One more question: why is this a personal package? Shouldnt be added to main repository since the version at repository is really old?

Not sure as it's not something I use. I simply know there is a PPA so when people want the newer version, it can be gained. If you log a bug stating what security holes and performance upgrades are in the newer one, it may be included faster. The current packaged version is known to run well in Ubuntu and that is what the devs want. Ubuntu is aimed at newcomers to Linux so a lot of testing goes into the OS to give the system stability rather than keeping up with the latest versions. If there is good reason to upgrade (due to a huge bug or security risk in the old version being solved) the newer package will be added to the official repos.
