In addition you have to take into account that Ubuntu is copying packages from Debian (to avoid double packaging work), and also Debian does not have version 2.7 yet, see https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/rear

First step for bringing rear version 2.7 into Ubuntu is that Debian upgrade their package. Maybe creating a bug report in the Debian bug tracker can help speeding that up.
In any case this will not lead to an update in existing Ubuntu releases, see the information in the FAQ linked above.

There is an updated version in http://relax-and-recover.org/download/ but listed only for older Ubuntu releases.

Can you help with this problem?
