New upstream release?

Asked by Pres-Gas

Will there be an update to the rclone package to reflect the newer upstream version?

Latest upload is 1.50.2-3
Current version is 1.52.2

Thanks!

If you report a bug and the bug and security fixes are significant then the package will be updated sooner rather than later. Ubuntu is not a rolling release distribution and packages can be left unupdated in favour of stability. This is especially true in the LTS versions.

You may find a PPA here on Launchpad.net but these obviously come with the usual caveats of a PPA.

You have to be aware that Ubuntu is copying packages from Debian (to avoid double packaging work), and also in Debian there is no higher version of rclone than 1.50.2-3 - see https://packages.debian.org/src:rclone&exact=1
First step towards bringing a higher version of rclone into Ubuntu is creating a related bug report in the Debian bug tracker.

There is already a bug report in Debian requesting an upgrade to version 1.51.0 - https://bugs.debian.org/960677
This should probably be updated to reflect the new version 1.52.*
And a link to that Debian bug should be added to the Ubuntu bug report when creating one.

Remark: Changelog showing several enhancements and bug fixes is on https://rclone.org/changelog/
