Any chance to update rails?

Asked by Alex

Hi!

Is there any chance to get an update of rails for Jaunty? The current version of Rails is about one year old. Debian squeeze includes version 2.2 since one month.
Of course rails 2.3 which is stable indeed would be great, rails 2.2 would be sufficient.

Regards,
Alex.

Hi Alex,

It looks like Jaunty is sticking with rails 2.1.x. https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rails. A member of MOTU is likely to answer your question more fully.

Cheers, Tim.

I am also interested in an updated Rails release. I develop on Ubuntu and release on Debian and was surprised by some deprecated config settings in my Rails project. Its weird when Debian moves faster than Ubuntu. :)

According to the link above it looks like Rails 2.2.2-1 was pushed to karmic-release on 2009-04-29. Does that help any? Will it eventually get pushed to Jaunty or will I have to pin APT to get it?

Thanx!

Release applications are generally kept at the shipped versions, this is
how the release is kept stable. Debian sid "moves faster" because the
Ubuntu release is frozen. Versions put into the development version will
never make it into the main repositories.

You can request a backport if there isn't one already, which if accepted
will add the new version to the backports repository (you would have to
enable that to use it).
