Actually it does play all sort of formats (pls, m3u, asx, wax, wvx).
Since I can't think of a missing plugin, it may just be the stream is broken.
Does it search for a plugin automatically and says something like text/html decoder not found, then the URL is wrong.
Test if the stream URL works with Rhythmbox or VLC.
I don't have Ubuntu restricted and VLC plays everything I can think of.
If you like post the URLs of streams in question.
Although there're thousands of radio stations out there maybe just find another one.

You can also ask the dev on his blog or open a ticket about the issue.

Both are flash files, which you can see at the ending .swf when you open the url and disable javascript.
http://corusmedia.media.streamtheworld.com/player/SWFs/PlayerAndNowPlaying.swf

However when javascript is enabled you can play the music within Firefox.

Here is the URL for your radio tray, works also in rhythmbox and vlc.
Station: Q 107 Toronto (classic rock)
http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/asx/CILQFM.asx

Second one.
Station: WPYX PYX 106(classic rock Albany NY)
URL for radio tray is:
http://a1788.l2136411451.c21364.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/1788/21364/v0001/reflector:11451?auth=caEcoaCaubLdgdVaQcZaAcodQdBdJb9dsag-bmQpbR-4q-PL5V0_8qrGHno3DAtlzuys&MSWMExt=.asf

## .asf works at least here with vlc, since I don't use radio tray.

Just in case you'd like to know where to find all those urls.
http://www.surfmusic.de/braodband.htm
## you can switch language to english on the small flag left hand side.

btw. all your radio stations in bookmarks of radio tray are stored in
~/.local/share/radiotray/bookmarks.xml
so you can backup the file somewhere in case something goes wrong.

You could also search the web for users which are using the app already.
e.g.
http://www.ubuntips.com.ar/2010/06/13/radio-tray-0-6/
says
gstreamer0.10-plugins-base
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad

as mentioned don't use flash streams.

Hi. I had the same problem when trying to listen to BBC World Service. First, I set as URL in Radio Tray the site's URL from my web browser. I was getting the message "Radio Error. You GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in". Then I found this page http://bbcstreams.com/ and got a new URL from it, that works fine with Radio Tray. I can now listen to BBC World Service alright using Radio Tray. I still have to solve the same problem for another station that I listen to: Ouifm.fr. Good luck. Julio
