Ubuntu takes most packages from Debian, including the qwt package. Debian's package version still is on 6.0.0, but they are aware that there is a 6.1.0 version available upstream. http://qa.debian.org/cgi-bin/watch?pkg=qwt_6.0.0-1.2
If Debian would upgrade to 6.1.0, Ubuntu will follow. So I recommend that someone requests an upgrade of qwt on the Debian pages.

If you want to use qwt 6.1.0 on Ubuntu without having to wait for the official uprades, you could download the original source from http://sourceforge.net/projects/qwt/files/qwt/6.1.0/ and compile the package yourself - either locally or by creating a PPA for that.

Thanks, I've compiled 6.1 and it works fine in my app but isn't really a solution for my end users. I really can't start using 6.1 until its in the apt repo. It's just to complicated the the average Joe to be compiling a whole bunch of libs just to use my app.

Can't see a PPA for the newer version. Sorry

If you see the need to provide that package version to the users supported by you in an as-simple-as possible manner, you could create a PPA for yourself and provide the 6.0.1 version there.
Then the only action for anybody else would be to add your PPA (just a simple terminal command or an additional file placed in the sources.list.d directory) and a normal apt upgrade.

Can you help with this problem?
