Ubuntu 24.04: Qt 6.5 or Qt 6.6 possible?

Asked by Stefan

Hi! Currently we have qt 6.4 packaged in noble. We are currently testing this version, but have some problems and would like to check 6.5 oder 6.6.
Therefore I would be very interested whether one of those version (6.5 -> LTS) will be finally part of 24.04?
Thanks!

Debian has already got qt6-base version 6.6.1 in their "experimental" release, see https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/qt6-base
If Debian copies that to "unstable" or "testing" early enough (before February 29, Debian import freeze for Ubuntu 24.04, see https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/noble-numbat-release-schedule/35649), then Ubuntu will probably take that for noble, too.

Please note, that maintenance for Qt 6.4 ended mid 2023, as it's not an LTS release
Qt 6.6 is also not an LTS release and maintenance for Qt 6.6 ends 2024-10-10.

But Qt 6.5 is an LTS release with maintenance until 2026-03-30.

As today is feature freeze (29th of February) it looks like we stay on 6.4.2 (https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/qt6-base has still 6.6 in experimental, no 6.5 available at all).
