Update the qalculate packages for Ubuntu 20.04?

Asked by Martin Babutzka

Dear maintainers,

Is it possible to update the qalculate packages for Ubuntu 20.04? They are pretty outdated and Qalculate is continuously updated and improved (https://qalculate.github.io/news.html). The snap/flatpak are so bad it can't be considered an alternative.

Also Debian has more up-to-date packages: https://packages.debian.org/search?suite=experimental&searchon=names&keywords=qalculate

Many regards,
Martin

Usually packages are taken over from Debian unstable or testing, and qalculate-gtk version 3.3.0 has only made it into Debian experimental so far, see https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=qalculate-gtk

I suggest that you create a bug report, describing the benefits from having the newer version in focal.

Martin Babutzka, did you find any solution for successfully install Qalculate! on Ubuntu 20.04?
I have dependency problem:

# apt install qalculate-gtk
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
qalculate-gtk : Depends: qalc but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libqalculate21 (>= 3.6.0) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

@Murz: It seems that you try installing packages that do not fit to your Ubuntu release.

For diagnostic purposes, what is the output of the commands

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
apt-cache policy qalculate-gtk libqalculate21 qalc libicu63 libicu66

Thanks for quick answer, I have enabled PPA http://ppa.launchpad.net/plasma-applet-qalculate/ppa/ubuntu that contains broken packages, after removing it via `ppa-purge` - qalculate-gtk installs well!

Can you help with this problem?
