Scipy's sandbox in Hardy

Asked by Philipe Mota

I recently updated my python-scipy package in hardy from version 0.5.2 to 0.6.0 and the whole sandbox modules disappeared!

I was intensively using the delaunay package and now I do not know what to do.

How can I install the delaunay package back to new scipy?
Will I have to downgrade my package? If so, how?

My architecture is amd64 and I use Kubuntu Hardy.

i don't know what exactly they changed, but before downgrading i'd have a look upstream, that is at http://www.scipy.org/ and look what the guys tell you...

Thanks for your answer.

I went to scipy's homepage and checked that the tarball they offer for the 0.6.0 version (the same in Kubuntu's repository)
( http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/scipy/scipy-0.6.0.tar.gz?download ) has the sandbox packages in it.
Delaunay is there!

So I would ask the repository maintainers to keep the sandbox packages in the package. I am not very fond of installing tarballs on my system since I appreciate the apt/Adept method's simplicity and reversibility.

Thanks again for your answer, and although it may seem I commented in the wrong place I feel this is not the case.

sorry, no offense ment!
if the (k)ubuntu version of scipy lacks functionality that the official (upstream) version offers, this should probably be filed as a bug against the ubuntu scipy package. you can do this yourself here in launchpad or write here again and i'll do it.

Oh! I thought I was doing that! (I mean, reporting a bug)

This is my first time reporting/asking anything for Ubuntu developers so I think I went the wrong way. Can you please tell me how to report this as a bug?

Nagel, no offense taken! You have been very kind and helpful. Thanks.

there is a difference between reporting a bug and asking a question as bug reports are pointing out an unwanted behavior on a rather technical level wheres questions are more the end-user thing.
you can file your bug report right here in launchpad either by clicking "create bug report" on the top left or filing a new bug under https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu
but make sure you check that nobody reported the issue before. you can add a comment to the existing bug report if it exists. some developers are not too happy if the get told the same things over and over again. and (very important) file you bug against the correct package (scipy should be it) so that the right people see it - most people (at least on the bug tracker) filter the bugs so they only see what they are interested in.

Can you help with this problem?
