how to understand code flow of nova(compute)?

I am working in openstack for 3 months.My interest is in NOVA.I covered most of the concept, Now i am trying to contribute to the community in bugs solving and developing .I cant find the way to start.Please help me how to begin.
1. Do i need to have the code flow knowledge to solve bugs and develop?
2.if i need code flow knowledge,what should i do ? and where to start?
